10 Days walking tours in Crete

1st Day:
Knossos and then by bus to Youchtas hill and walking for 1 hours from/to 400 m high.
2nd Day:
Excursion to Omalos, Samarian Gorge, Agia Roumeli then by boat to Sfakia and return (distance 18 km downward and approximate 5 hours walking).
3rd Day:
Excursion to Kardiotisa Monasteri and from there walking along an old road over a mountain side upward 350 m high and then 150 m downward aprox. 2,5 hour. After that from one side of the Lasithi Plateau we walk upward to the Cave Dikteon Andron, where according to the Myth Zeus was born (approx. 100 m in high and after that return the same way).
4rth Day:
Excursion to Archeological Museum and then to Thrapsano, short visit there and then walk from there to Voni cloister (approx. 2 hours walking upward).
5th Day:
Excursion to Imvros village and from there start walking to the Imvros Gorge, 8 km It takes aproximate 2 hours, then visit Komitades village and later Chora Sfakion.
6th Day:
Excursion to Phaistos and then from Pitsidia walking to Matala (approximate 2 hours) and in the afternoon visit the sites of Achient Gortis or avoid this visit if you consider it no necessary.
7th Day:
Today via Drosia village we arrive to Heliana village where we will start walking through a beautiful landscape to Veni village (approx. 3 hours) then we will arrive to Axos village and return to our hotel.
8th Day:
Excursion by bus via Sitia to the village Zakros and from there start walking through the Gorge there to Kato Zakros for aproximate 2 – 2.5 hours and return.
9th Day:
Excursion to Tzermiado at Lasithi Plateau and we go up to Selena mountain (with high 1700 m from sea level and then continue to Mesa Potamous downward where we arrive after 3.5 or 4 hours (middle difficulty) and return to our hotel.
10th Day:
Breakfast and at the right time transfer to Airport and flight back home.

Excursion in crete, Lasithi
Gournia, Ierapetra, Anatoli & Kalamafka Timios Stavros church
Breakfast in our hotel and begin our excursion to East – South Crete. We will make our first stop at Gournia a city with unknown name which lies on a small hill 19 km East of Agios Nikolaos and a few hundred meters from the gulf of Mirabello. Here it was a city with inhabitants from 2300 B.C. till 1450 BC where destroyed at the same period the other Minoan Palace on Crete and after that abandoned. Continue to Ierapetra city the most South city of Europe Favoured both by position and by nature, Ierapetra has always been an important centre of the island. It has grown into the largest town in south Crete and a major tourist destination. Through the village Anatoli we will arrive to village Kalamafka. From here we will have the chance to see the North and South sea of Crete. We will visit also here the church of Timios Stavros. Then return to our hotel.

Cretan Evening
Folklore program: 18.00 – 23.00
Early in the evening we begin to visit a village where we are going to enjoy our evening in Cretan style. There, we are going to have traditional local dishes for dinner and unlimited free wine will be offered. At the same time an entertaiment programme with local music and young Cretan dancers in their traditional costumes will be performed. At the end we are invited to join them in dancing.

Malia, Kritsa, Agios Nikolaos, Elounda, Spinalonga
After breakfast we start to visit East part of Crete. Our first stop will be Kritsa, a beautiful Cretan village, near Agios Nikolaos where we can see the frescoes of the church Panagia Kera from the13th century. Then we will arrive to Elounda and from there we will get a caique to go to Spinalonga island (20 minutes trip per way). Then return to Elounda, (free lunch or arranged one) and then continue to Agios Nikolaos for one hour staying there for coffee or shopping before we return to our hotel.

Lassithi Plateau
A scenery tour 3000 ft up the west slope of Dicti mountain is Lassithi Plateau. On the way we will stop at Panagia Kera cloister with its Byzantine frescoes. Then we will continue to Psychro and visit the Dicteon Andron Cave which according to the Greek Mythology is the birth place of Zeus, the father of the Gods. The Cave is an impressive sight almost vertical down to in land with full of stalactites and stalagmites. It is advisable to have proper shoes for walking as the entrance of the cave is in a distance 400 meter away upwards from the bus parking place.

Sitia Vai Toplou
Today we will visit Ierapetra city the most South city of Europe favored both by position and by nature, Ierapetra has always been an important centre of the island. It has grown into the largest town in south Crete and a major tourist destination. We will stop here for a coffee or for some pictures and then continue to the east and arrive at Sitia 72 km from Agios Nikolaos. Sitia was built by Venetians on the west side of a magnificent bay. We continue east and arrive to Toplou Monastery founded in 15th century famous for its icons. After that we will arrive at Vai a tropical landscape with unique beauty as there are 5000 palm-trees and one of the most beautiful beaches with crystal clean waters. Time for swimming and then return to our hotel.
